Creating Lifelong Learners

Alden Elementary strives to develop young learners in a nurturing yet challenging environment. Our small student to teacher ratio allows us to spend more time working with students in small groups and one-on-one. During 2004, we were ranked within the top 10 districts in the state of Iowa for our high reading scores in fourth grade. We were also in the top 10% for our math scores. Our staff continues to learn new teaching strategies to help students be successful in school and life.

Each school year brings excitement and new challenges. We expect our students to do their best; from academics and fine arts to character. This year we will be focusing on a character trait each month. Students are encouraged to demonstrate their positive character attributes always. As we all know, “Character is what you do when no one is looking.”

For the K-5 students, there will also be a few surprises throughout the year--from dress up days during Homecoming Week to a special emphasis week in March. And, as always, our annual celebrations of 100th Day, Donuts for Dads, Muffins for Moms, and Grandfriend’s Day.

The 6th grade students will enjoy a change in pace as they will run on an 8-period day. This taste of middle-school offers four exploratory classes as well as the basic academic courses. Sixth graders are encouraged to run for Student Council as officers are elected each semester. All students will be able to attend a dance for Valentine’s Day and participate in the Winter Olympics and Spring Olympic Field Day.

Sixth grade students will also be challenged and motivated by the “Unlock Your Future” program which was created by parents. This program strives to recognize students for their hard work, positive character, and good grades. All students have the opportunity to earn keys in which prizes can be won. We are very fortunate to have the support of Alden and Iowa Falls businesses which make this program possible.

Finally, be sure to attend our upcoming events at our building. We can learn so much from one another and continue to help our students grow as we open the doors of communication. We appreciate your continued support and positive interactions!
